Goa police Anti Corruption Branch personnel on Monday arrested Vinayak K Dharwadkar, Assistant Manager, Goa State Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Curti, Ponda, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from an electrical contractor.
Dharwadkar pressurised the complainant to pay the bribe to get a work order for supply, installation and commissioning of a transformer, projection gear LT panel MCC & push button station in the plant costing Rs 52.8 lakh. ACB officials laid a trap for Dharwadkar.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Goa Dairy N Sawant has demanded strict action against Dharwadkar as per the law. “Because of this type of officers, the name of the dairy gets spoilt. This type of incident has happened for the first time in our dairy,” he said.
Apart from this incident, Goa Dairy has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The High Court of Bombay at Goa on August 24 had directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to take a decision over disqualifying the directors and managing director of the dairy as there were allegations of mismanagement against the board of directors.
Farmer and milk supplier Dattaprasad Sawardekar and other farmers linked to Goa Dairy have moved the High Court against the inaction of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for failing to take action against the board of directors.
After the allegation of financial mismanagement, the government had appointed a chartered accountant to investigate the affairs of Goa Dairy. The chartered accountant has corroborated the allegations levelled against the dairy management.
The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, besides issuing show cause notices and noting the reply of the managing director and directors, did not take any other further action.
In February, the dairy was also in the news as there were allegations of corruption in the management groups.
Chairman Dattaprasad Sawardekar from the inquiry committee constituted to investigate the allegations has made more allegations against the board members. He had made allegations that there was corruption in Goa Dairy right from procurement of milk to purchase of machinery and recruitment of a clerk from Karwar, Karnataka.
