Pernem Municipal Council Chairperson Shradha Mashelkar and Deputy Chairperson Prashant Gadekar submitted their resignations to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) on Thursday.
It is learnt that Mashelkar and Gadekar resigned after eight months as part of an agreement within the ruling group of councillors.
Mashelkar and Gadekar are in ruling group along with councillors Suvidha Teli, Sweta Kambli, Deepak Mandrekar, Sidhesh Pernekar, Gajanan Sawal Dessai and Usha Ngvekar. Upendra Deshprabhu and Smita Kurtarkar are in the opposition.
The PMC chairperson’s post is reserved for women and with Nagvekar and Mashelkar having served as chairpersons, Suvidha Teli and Gajanan Sawal Dessai are tipped to be the next chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively.
“During my tenure of eight months, I have developed the municipal area to my expectations. The market and adminstrative building projects are pending with the SUDA. I was successful in raising house tax and also managed to remove vendors from using the main road during the weekly bazaar day,” Mashelkar told reporters.
