The Goa Dairy has placed Assistant Manager Vinayak Dharwadkar under suspension pending an enquiry, after he was caught allegedly red-handed by the ACB while accepting a bribe.
Stating this at a news conference, Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant on Tuesday accused Dharwadkar of malpractices and said he had been suspended on two previous occasions.
“Earlier, we had made one recovery due to his malpractice. But we did not know that he would go to the extent of taking bribes,” Dr Sawant said.
Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Fal Desai said they would fully cooperate with the ACB in its investigation.
“It was good that he has been caught and nobody should support him. The Goa Dairy MD should take action against him. We don’t want such workers in Goa Dairy as our name is getting maligned. We will fully cooperate with the ACB in its investigation,” said Desai.
Asked if there were malpractices in procurement of milk from neighbouring states, since an average of 25,000 litre of milk is procured daily, Desai replied, “Such things have not come to our notice and it is impossible. We purchase milk with a tendering process, so why would any person pay our officers?”
Other Goa Dairy Board of Directors were also present at the news conference.
