PONDA
Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari has suspended Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant pending enquiry into the irregularities alleged against him.
Senior Officer Dr Ajit Kosambe has been given charge of MD’s post.
“I am satisfied that prima facie some irregularities in financial dealings as well as in matters have taken place, wherein you are suspected to be directly involved. To have a free and fair enquiry in this regards, it is very essential that all such facts and records should not be under your custody and guidance. By your presence as Managing Director of The Goa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, there is every likelihood of tampering of evidence and pressurizing the subordinate staff during recording of evidence,” stated Sahakari in an order.
Dr Sawant has been directed to report to the Goa Dairy every day during working hours.
Speaking to The Goan, Sahakari said he has the powers to take action against the MD and hence, he had done so as per law. “His manipulations are exposed and hence it is very possible that he could tamper with the evidence,” Sahakari said.
“One enquiry is pending against him since the last one-and-half months. He will be kept on suspension till the enquiry comes to a conclusion,” Sahakari said.
When contacted, Dr Sawant said he was not aware of his suspension. “I came home after office was closed. I will go to office on Wednesday,” said Dr Sawant.
Sahakari on Monday had demanded an enquiry into the affairs of Dr Sawant, after alleging a scam of around Rs 8 crore in the last six years. Sahakari claimed to have documentary evidence to prove the allegations. Dr Sawant has, however, denied the allegations and has welcomed any enquiry in the matter.
