The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration Goa recently won a major award called ‘Safe & Nutrition Food Ambassador Award’. FDA Director, Salim A Veljee, was felicitated with this award by The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW).

FDA-Goa won this award for being an early adopter of a project under which it had trained 1,400 street food vendors in association with Nestle India and National Association of Street Vendors of India. Under this project, street food vendors in Goa were imparted special skill development training in sanitary and hygienic practices.
Speaking on this development, Veljee said, “This award is a great achievement for the directorate and the state government because it shows the efforts we have put in to ensure safe and nutritional food.”
Veljee received this award at the hands of Lystra Antonie, CEO, Global Food Safety Partnership, Program Manager, World Bank. Also present on the occasion were Amitabh Kant (CEO, Niti Aayog), Ashish Bahuguna (FSSAI Chairperson) and R K Vats (Additional Secretary, MoHFW).
