MARGAO
Goa Forward has strongly backed Goan women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) that provide mid-day meals to schoolchildren.
On Friday, party leader Vijai Sardesai visited Ravindra Kelekar Dyanmandir School to check the meal quality provided by a local SHG. He assured the women that he would question the Chief Minister about supporting Akshaya Patra when local SHGs were already doing a great job.
Accompanied by party leaders Prashant Naik and Durgadas Kamat, Sardesai spoke to students, who said they were happy with the homemade meals. He also joined them for a meal. “These SHGs are doing a commendable job,” he said, adding that the scheme was introduced by Manohar Parrikar to empower women. Sardesai questioned why the Chief Minister preferred Akshaya Patra over hardworking local SHGs and vowed to raise the issue in the Assembly.
