MAPUSA
An unidentified pedestrian was killed when he was knocked down by a passenger bus on the highway in front of the Sewage Treatment Project at Socorro late on Friday evening. Passengers were left stranded in the bus as the driver and conductor fled the scene.
The incident took place at about 7.40 pm when the passenger bus was proceeding from Panaji to Mapusa. The pedestrian was crossing the highway when the bus knocked him down.
The driver brought the bus to a halt, and he, along with the conductor, fled the site, leaving the passengers stranded in the bus. The pedestrian was later moved to the Mapusa District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police are on the lookout for the absconding bus driver.
