Pune, recalled that his office had earlier instructed to stop the movement of poultry and poultry products from Belagavi to Goa state, following the recent outbreak of Avian influenza in Karnataka region.Acting on the report, the collectors of both districts in Goa had banned import of poultry and poultry products from Karnataka, severely hitting the business of poultries in Belagavi district.“The sanitation certificate later issued by the director of AHVS at Bengaluru and the Deputy Director of AHVS at Belagavi stated that at present, there are no incidents of bird flu in their district and it is free from bird flu,” the joint commissioner s letter states.“In such case, you are permitted to start movement of poultry and poultry products from Karnataka to Goa state,” the letter adds.This latest letter has boosted the prospects of the poultry industry in Belagavi that was going through tough times due the ban imposed by Goa on one side and the advent of Shravana month on the other side.“We were baffled and rather dejected about the ban imposed by Goa, as this was for the first time that such a ban was imposed by Goa. But now we hope that Goa initiates immediate steps to lift the ban and allow us to send the birds,” Sanjeev Deshpande of Kwality Group of Industries told The Goan. “Goa market is valuable for us and hence, we always observe extra care before sending the poultry products to Goa,” Deshpande added.
