The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has strongly condemned the recent attack on activist Rama Kanconkar, alleging that the incident reflects the government’s failure to maintain law and order in Goa.
“The present law and order situation in Goa clearly indicates that it has gone beyond the control of the Government of Goa,” the organisation said in a statement.
It alleged that individuals and groups have been carrying out attacks with impunity, while “vigilante injustice has now become the norm.” JIH pointed out that the absence of police complaints from citizens shows a “loss of trust in the administration’s ability to deliver justice.”
According to the statement, “Many times, the police have remained mere spectators, lacking the resolve to act against such individuals and groups. The unwillingness of the Government and law enforcement agencies has further emboldened goonda elements, with the attack on Rama Kanconkar being only one such example.”
Holding the state accountable, JIH said, “The Government of the day bears the responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.”
Calling the crime “politically motivated,” JIH State President Asif Hussain urged the government to act without delay. “We appeal to the Government to take immediate corrective measures to restore public confidence in the administration and law enforcement agencies,” he said.
