Goa loses 75 more to Covid in record single-day count

A total of 75 patients succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday, the highest single-day Covid victim count recorded in the state so far. Goa’s Covid death toll now stands at 1,804. 

Of these 75 deaths, 48 were recorded at Goa Medical College and Hospital, 17 at South Goa District Hospital, three at a private hospital in South Goa, two at a private hospital in North Goa and one each at Hospicio, ESI Covid Hospital, North Goa District Hospital, Primary Health Centre Marcaim and PHC Chinchinim. 

Meanwhile, in its daily briefing on the status of Covid-19 in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare disclosed that for the second consecutive week, Goa continues to remain at the top of the list of states with the highest weekly Covid positivity rate in the country. Goa’s average weekly positivity rate between May 5 and May 11 was 49.6 per cent. MoHFW informed that the weekly average positivity rate in nine states and Union Territories is still above 25 per cent and it is below 24.9 per cent and above 20 per cent in 10 states and Union Territories. Only four states have less than five per cent weekly average positivity rate. 

It was further stated that Goa is among the states which have shown a continued increase in the number of cases over the last week. 

On the other hand, the state’s daily Covid bulletin recorded a major drop in the daily positivity rate with 3,124 or 36.73  per cent samples out of the 8,505 samples testing positive in the last 24 hours. The state presently has 32,836 active Covid cases.
