The Goa Police, on Friday, destroyed narcotics weighing 49 kg, valued at approximately Rs 2.17 crore. The drugs, seized by various departments of the Goa Police—including the Konkan Railway, police stations of both districts, and the Anti-Narcotic Cell—were from 30 cases whose trials and appeal periods had been completed.

A statement issued by the department states that the destroyed substances included drugs such as ganja, charas, cocaine, MDMA, and LSD, with a combined weight of 49.17 kg and valued at approximately Rs 2.17 crore in the international market.

The NDPS Drugs Disposal Committee conducted a thorough inspection of the drugs and related documentation earlier this week at the Police Headquarters, Panaji.

The narcotics were destroyed at the incinerator of Biotic Waste Solutions at IDC Kundaim.

The destruction was carried out in the presence of DGP Alok Kumar, IPS, along with the NDPS Disposal Committee, headed by DIG Crime Varsha Sharma, IPS. Other dignitaries present included SP ANC Tikam Singh Verma, IPS; Shweta Dessai (Director, FDA); and SP Headquarters Nelson Albuquerque. The proceedings were assisted by DySP ANC Nerlon Albuquerque, PI ANC Sajith Pillai, and staff from the ANC PS.

This initiative was part of a special fortnight drive for the disposal of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, monitored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The drive was carried out under the vision and leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
