MARGAO: The authorities on Friday sealed around five more commercial establishments in Margao for want of consent to operate, even as the Goa State Pollution Control Board conducted a camp in the district Collectorate, South to facilitate online submission of applications for consent to operate.
Three chicken establishments, besides a bar and restaurant and a sweet mart were shut down by officials of the Salcete Mamlatdar office as per the GSPCB’s request, taking the total number of establishments shut down in Margao to 26. With today’s drive, the number of establishments that remained to be sealed in the city are pegged at 20.
Meanwhile, Environment Minister Alexio Sequeira told the media that the drive initiated by the GSPCB to facilitate online applications for consent to operate has received around 20 applications. He said the exercise will be held every fortnight or once a month in the district Collectorate to facilitate owners of establishments to obtain the consent to operate online.
To a question, Sequeira said the SGPDA along with the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd has prepared an estimate for laying an underground sewerage line connecting the SGPDA retail market to the underground line. He said most of the meat stalls in the SGPDA market have obtained the consent to operate the business from the GSPCB.
Meanwhile, Sequeira has requested the people to avail the benefit of the day long drive organised by the deputy Collectors in South Goa for the regularisation of their houses.
