MARGAO: The South Goa district Collector Egna Cleetus has directed the Executive Engineer, WD-IX (PHE) PWD, Fatorda Margao-Goa to demolish water tanks at the Housing Board near Siddhi Vinayak Mandir and Monte Hill, Margao on priority basis in order to avoid any further damage to life and property.
The directions comes after a report was submitted to the Collector stating that two old water tanks of PWD which are in dilapidated and dangerous conditions located at Housing Board near Siddhi Vinayak Mandir and Monte Hill, Margao needs to be demolished under Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The report has stated that the dilapidated water tanks are posing threat to the public life and property.
Asserting that precautionary measure are necessary to avoid any threat to the public life and property, the Collector invoked powers conferred on her under Section 30, of Sub Section (2) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 to direct the Executive Engineer, WD-IX (PHE) PWD, Fatorda Margao-Goa to demolish the water tanks.
