After a seven-month hiatus, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has announced its return to active politics, with plans to contest the forthcoming 2027 State Assembly elections. The party will, however, go at it alone and has decided to distance itself from the United Opposition.
The party will reinitiate its membership and donation drive shortly.
Addressing a press conference, RGP Chief Manoj Parab explained that the party had taken a step back over the last seven months to observe the political developments in the State. "We have now returned with a revolution to address the pressing issues of Goa," he stated.
Parab acknowledged the challenges faced during the period, apologised for not responding to calls and messages, and revealed that the party had reflected on its performance in the 2022 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "The last seven months were tough, but we have learned a lot from the Lok Sabha elections," Parab said, adding that opposition parties had taunted him and his team during this time.
During this reflective phase, Parab emphasised that the party had paused its social work initiatives, urging workers to focus on supporting their families and take up jobs, as they prepared for the 2027 elections.
"This is a war, and we need the support of our families to fight it. I even started a small business myself," Parab shared.
Despite the setbacks, Parab reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its cause. "The fire of RGP will not be doused; it will burn brighter," he said. He also disclosed that he held meetings with Goans from 28 to 30 constituencies, gathering feedback on how the party can improve its 2022 manifesto. Parab also met with various stakeholders, including taxi operators, farmers, and youth, to understand their concerns and needs.
Reflecting on the party’s decision to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections independently, Parab expressed confidence, stating, "It was the right decision to go solo. We now receive feedback that it was the correct choice not to align with parties like Congress or AAP."
Responding to rumours regarding MLA Viresh Borkar's potential shift to Congress, Parab dismissed the reports, affirming that Borkar remains an integral part of the Revolutionary Goans.
