The Goa Police have conceded that some “disgruntled elements” might be adding jealousy or exaggeration to complaints against Duty Masters at police stations. However, not dismissing the possibility of truth in the allegations, as numerous complaints have come to the fore, the department has decided to rotate Duty Masters every six months.
“A number of allegations have been received against Duty Masters of the Police Stations and Units. Some of these allegations could be exaggerated also, due to jealousy or animosity by some disgruntled elements. Nevertheless, an element of truth cannot be ruled out in these and hence in order to avoid such allegations in the future, all Incharges of Police Stations/Units are directed to change the Duty Master every six months, and the said duty master should not be repeated,” reads a note by Superintendent of Police (HQ) Nelson Albuquerque, to all concerned in the department.
The note, issued on behalf of Director General of Police Jaspal Singh, also emphasized the need for regular checks on duty rosters and to ensure no biases in the allotment of duties.
“...The Incharges...should also check the Duty Roster regularly so that undue favour is not shown to any staff or no injustice is caused to anyone by continuously giving strenuous and fatigue duties like night duties, guard duties, etc,” it said.
