Various issues pertaining to implications of 5G technology on law and order problems, traffic management and financial frauds, and preparing law enforcement agencies to deal with the emerging challenges were discussed at the Goa Police Ideathon organised at BITS Pilani, Goa Campus on Friday.
In the brainstorming session on the topic ‘Implications of 5G technology for Law Enforcement Agencies’, speakers from three domains viz. Police, Academia and Industry were present. The session commenced with talks on the fundamental aspects of 5G technology by Dr Neelkanadan Rajamohan (Faculty, IIT Goa) and Smart Decides by Tarun Lakhmani (Asst Manager, IFB).
DGP Singh enlightened the audience about challenges that are currently being faced by the citizens and the nature of crimes that is likely to be faced in the near future.
The introductory session was followed by focussed panel discussion on three sub-topics concerning police.
The panel for Implications of 5G technology on Law and Order Problems consisted of Nidhin Valsan (SP North & Cyber Crime), Shivendu Bhushan (SDPO Margao), Rajamohan and Sawant Kushwaha (Asst Manager, IFB) and they highlighted how predictive policing and monitoring through drones will improve police effectiveness. Concerns about possible confusion in the current legal regime were also discussed.
The second panel for Implications of 5G technology on Traffic Management consisting of Bosco George (SP Traffic), Damodar Reddy (Faculty, NIT Goa), Dr Sathisha Basavaraju (Scientist, Beltech AI Pvt Ltd) and Filomena Costa (PI Traffic Colva) highlighted the benefits of realisation of ITMS and automated detection and challaning of violations. Possibility of disruption of traffic management through unauthorized malicious access and safeguards against the same were also highlighted.
The third panel for Implications of 5G technology on Financial Frauds consisting of Sunita Sawant (SP Economic Offences Cell), Dr Sanjay K Sahay (Faculty, BITS Goa), Dr Ajit Muzumdar (Faculty, NFSU Goa) and Raman Jaiswal (Chief Manager, SBI Goa) highlighted how 5G can be beneficial in better KYC and ensuring 360 degree security of the financial ecosystem.
