Director General of Police Alok Kumar stated that the Goa Police is closely monitoring developments related to the investigation into the death of former MLA Lavoo Mamledar, who also served as Goa’s deputy superintendent of police. Mamledar passed away soon after an altercation with a rickshaw driver in Belagavi on Saturday afternoon.
“He died after a scuffle with a local in Khade Bazaar, Belagavi. The Goa Police is closely monitoring the development and coordinating with the Karnataka Police to expedite the post-mortem and ensure the early release of the body to his family," Kumar said.
Condolences poured in from across party lines. Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade mourned Mamledar’s passing while remembering his contributions to Goa’s politics and police force.
“Saddened by the passing of former MLA Lavoo Mamledar in Belagavi. He made valuable contributions to Goa’s politics and the police force,” he said, extending his condolences to the family.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLA Carlos Ferreira, Congress President Amit Patkar and GFP president Vijai Sardesai among other leaders also expressed their sympathies with Mamledar’s family, friends and supporters.
