Goa Police on Tuesday claimed that it had achieved significant success in its anti-drug operations in 2024, with cumulative seizures valued at approximately Rs 9.81 crore. The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) led the effort, confiscating narcotics worth about Rs 6.83 crore, the highest among all divisions.
Separate seizures were also made by other units ” North Goa Police seized drugs worth Rs 1.40 crore, South Goa Police Rs 74.76 lakh, the Crime Branch Rs 65.71 lakh, and the Konkan Railway Police Rs 15.45 lakh.
Details shared by the department reveal that the ANC registered 30 cases, arrested 34 persons, and busted several drug networks. Among these, key breakthroughs included India’s first seizure of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a hallucinogenic drug, in commercial quantities valued at Rs 14 lakh, and Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB), commonly known as a “date-rape drug,” worth Rs 12 lakh. The unit also busted two hydroponic cannabis cultivation labs in Borim and Paliem.
The ANC also executed Goa’s largest LSD seizure and dismantled a pan-India LSD distribution network. In another high-profile operation, Jharkhand-based Guddu Mochi Ram, a kingpin supplier of ganja to Goa, was arrested.
Among those arrested were eight Goans, 15 from other states, and 10 foreign nationals.
