Pedestrian killed in road mishap at Mapusa, bus driver held

A 55-year-old pedestrian hailing from Pune but residing at Alorna-Pernem was crushed to death by a private passenger bus in Mapusa on Tuesday evening.  

The bus driver, Sunny Tukaram Mandrekar (36) of Oxel-Siolim has been arrested by the Mapusa police in this connection.  

According to reports, the accident took place at around 6.50 pm when the pedestrian, Rajesh Karve, was crossing the road at the turn in front of Union Pharmacy  

At the same time, a private passenger bus travelling from Siolim was proceeding to the bus stand.  

The bus knocked down Karve and the rear wheel ran over him.

He was seriously injured in the mishap and was shifted to the Mapusa District Hospital, where he was declared dead.  

Upon receiving information about the incident, Police Constables Vijay Gadekar and Sushant Chopdekar rushed to the spot and conducted a panchnama.

They also took the bus driver into custody. Further investigation is being conducted by Mapusa Police Sub-Inspector Mangesh Palani.

Portuguese national held in Delhi drug case

PANAJIGoa Police’s ANC and Crime Branch assisted the Delhi Police  Crime Branch in apprehending a Portuguese national from Colva.ANC SP  Tikam Singh Verma stated that the accused is linked to a case in Delhi  involving the seizure of 3.5 kg of charas worth Rs 2.5 crore.   “Investigations are underway to trace further connections in Goa and  beyond,” he said.
