Goa police team leaves for Guj to trace hotelier booked for rape

PANAJI

A team from the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of Goa Police has left for Gujarat to trace the hotelier, booked for trafficking and rape. The businessman, whose name has been kept under wraps by the police, is charged with drugging, raping, and blackmailing a young model during their visit to Goa last year.

Police sources told The Goan that the team consists of two women officers and male constables. “They are coordinating with our counterparts in Gujarat. We are hopeful the accused is not absconding. Nevertheless, our investigation team will coordinate with the local police to trace his whereabouts, if he’s on the run. His arrest is crucial in the wake of serious allegations levelled by the victim against him,” a senior officer said.

The 20-year-old and the accused hail from Gujarat. The survivor, whose statement has been recorded before the Magistrate under Section 164 CrPC, alleged the incident occurred in Calangute during their ‘business trip’ in December 2021.
