Members of JanaSena and Canacona Congress Parivar gheraoed Executive Engineer of PWD (WD XXV, Fatorda), after accusing the PWD of failing to begin repairing the bad roads in Canacona on Friday.
According to GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari, the executive engineer sought some more time and promised to start the works on all roads (NH, MDR, internal and beach-touching roads) before December 1.
Bhandari informed that as the PWD had failed to meet the deadline given by the JanaSena and Canacona Congress Parivar to commence repair of all internal roads of Canacona by November 15, they had confronted the executive engineer (WD XXV, Fatorda) P T Pednekar to inquire about the failure to start the road work.
“We apprised the EE about the pathetic conditions of all internal roads of Canacona and how local people, students and tourists are suffering badly due to bad internal roads. After observing our strong sentiments, the EE promised to immediately start the work on roads where work orders are already issued and also assured us to expedite the process of issuing work orders where tenders are approved. He assured us to start work on all internal roads of Canacona before December 1,” said Bhandari.
