A team of Goa Police headed by a Police Inspector is said to have reached Haryana on Tuesday as it extended its jurisdiction of the probe into the murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
The team searched her farmhouse and has begun recording statements of witnesses connected with the case. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has extended all assistance to the Goa government.
Sources said that the Phogat family has informed the police that they suspect Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh executed their murder plan to take possession of her assets reportedly valued at Rs 3 cr approx.
"Sangwan had ended her staff's contract with Phogat. Besides handling her political engagements, he also took control of her food and finances. She had once complained to her family about feeling uneasy after tasting a sweet dish served by Sangwan but he tried to cover it up," said sources.
On her return from Goa, she was expected to file a complaint against her two associates but died due to suspected overdose.
