In news which will give a boost to innovation, Government of Goa and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) where STPI will be investing Rs 40 crore in building a centre of excellence at Dona Paula.
The State Government will be providing land to STPI, but STPI will invest in the centre. The MoU was signed at the ongoing Vibrant Goa Summit in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister of Information Technology Jennifer Monserrate and STPI’s Director General Omkar Rai.
Speaking to reporters, Rai said, “We are aiming to build a research and a resource centre in Goa. At such a facility, the start-ups will get an opportunity to convert their ideas into prototypes because we will be providing right infrastructure to them.”
“Once the government hands over the land to us, we will start construction and I am hopeful that we will complete the project within two-and-half-years,” he continued.
In fact, STPI is in the process of building such centres of excellence all over the country. One such centre that has been set up in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is already operational.
Rai also said that Goa is the right place for such an investment because it has talent and also the presence of marine engineering institutions and research institutions.
Around 2,000 national and 500 international delegates from 54 countries are participating in this summit.

destination: Modi to investors
PANAJI: Goa should be looked at as an investment destination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told foreign investors in his message for the ‘’Vibrant Goa Global Expo and Summit’’ here on Thursday. The prime minister’s message was read out during the inauguration of the three-day summit.
“This summit is an opportunity for international delegates to look at Goa as an investment destination, particularly in the areas of technology, start-ups, agro and food processing, construction and real estate,” Modi said in the message. The event will also encourage local people to imbibe latest technology and best international practices to take Goa to excellence, he said.
