A teacher at a government school near Marcela was arrested on Wednesday night on charges of molesting five girl students.
A number of parents, teachers and past pupils have, however, claimed that the complaint has been bogus and that, the teacher is innocent of the charges.
According to reports, the teacher was arrested from his house after a complaint by the students with a school committee.
The teacher was arrested under Section 354 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act. He claimed to be unwell and was admitted to the Ponda Sub-District hospital.
On Thursday, some parents, teachers and past pupils went to the police station and claimed that the complaint had been bogus and was at the behest of a counsellor and a teacher.
A former PTA chairman claimed that the accused teacher is innocent and had been working hard to manage the school in the absence of a headmaster at the school for two years.
“If the allegations are true, why was the PTA not informed about this incident and why was the complaint made directly with the police,” asked the former PTA chairman.
