While the State off-late has been witnessing a number of road accidents, stunts on four-wheelers by desi tourists much against the traffic laws are also on the rise in the coastal State.
A number of incidents of four-wheelers being driven and getting stuck on the beach have been reported in the recent past but on bright Sunday morning some tourists have taken these stunts to a different level.
The tourists were seen having a ball of a time driving a jeep dangerously on one of the roads in Arpora near Anjuna.
A video of the incident which has gone viral shows two tourists sitting on the roof of the vehicle while one of them is controlling the steering of the moving vehicle with his feet.
The vehicle seems to be a Mahindra Thar jeep.
Netizens were quick to slam the irresponsible act of the tourists.
“It's time to put public transport in place and ban rent-a-car and bikes to save innocent lives on roads,” said Raju Parker.
“For tourists Goa has become like land of no law. They think they can do anything,” said Ulhas Kadam.
People also questioned the lackadaisical approach of Goa Police in taking tough action against such unruly tourists.
“Such type of driving should be taught a lesson by the local people, as the police are reluctant to take strict action,” said Anthony Pereira.
“It’s just another example of how Goan police are taken for granted,” said Subhash Surlekar.
Anjuna Police said that the vehicle did not have a number plate and therefore it was difficult to identify it.
“The vehicle is not traced yet because the vehicle number cannot be identified. We are still in the process of identifying it. We have checked the footage of one surveillance camera and other CCTV cameras along the road are being examined. The moment we get something, we will take action,” said Jivba Dalvi, Mapusa SDPO.
