Masjid Darshan held in Margao to promote religious harmony

MARGAO

The doors of the Masjid ul Abrar at Sirvodem-Margao were thrown open for people of all faith on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Muhammed on Sunday as the Margao unit of the Jamaat e Islami Hind, Goa conducted Masjid Darshan allowing people to meet, share and experience the values and culture of the Muslim community.

Men, women and children were welcomed at the Masjid Darshan on Sunday for the tour of the Mosque and had an occasion to interact with the Maulana (Priest).

Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, ex-Margao Municipal chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar and former MMC chairperson Johnson Fernandes were among the politicians who made it to the Masjid Darshan at the Masjid ul Abrar on Sunday.

Mohammed A told The Goan that the primary objective behind conducting the Masjid Darshan was to ensure that religion should become a binding force like in the past and not divide the society.

“In the past, religion was the binding force, where people from all faiths lived in perfect harmony and peace with each other. Today, religion has become a dividing force, the society has been polarised on religious lines,” he said.

He added: The Masjid darshan will explain to the participants the meaning of different concepts such as namaz, and what’s taking place inside the Mosque. Today is the birthday of Prophet Muhammed. The darshan will give an insight into the life of Prophet Muhammed and his teachings. We have invited people of all faiths, including Hindus, Christians and Muslims and the young and the old. The main objective behind the programme is to remove the misconceptions, if any, on Islam and to make religion once again a binding force.”
