GOACAN calls for govt printing press sales counter at Margao

MARGAO

GOACAN has urged South Goa district Collector Swapnil Naik to take steps to arrange for the setting up of a government Printing Press sales counter in any one of the shops/ office spaces available on the ground floor of the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex with immediate effect.

In a letter to the district Collector, GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins said the measure would help make available government calendars in Margao and bring relief to the consumers of South Goa for the New Year 2017.

He said that GOACAN had been receiving complaints from Consumers about the closure of the Sales Counter of Government Printing Press at Comunidade Building in Margao for the past many months. “This has inconvenienced the consumers who wish to purchase printed copies of various Acts & Rules, get copies of the Goa Government Gazette or even subscribe for the same. Consumers from Canacona, Quepem, Sanquem, Dharbandora & Salcete Talukas have to travel to Panaji for the purchase of these publications which were earlier available at the Margao Sales Counter," he added.

Moreover, the Printing Press has now offered for sale the Goa Government Calendar for 2017 for Rs 40 and the same is available for sale only at the Panaji sales counter. This has resulted in consumers having to spend Rs 100 to travel by bus to Panaji & back and waste half a day just to get a copy of the Calendar that cost Rs 40.

Martins said that GOACAN had made inquiries at the Government Printing Press in Panaji on whether there are any plans to open a sales counter for their publications in Margao but the responsehas been in the negative. “In connection with the forthcoming Legislative Assembly Elections, many important Gazette notifications with regards poll dates, political party candidates, orders of the Election Commission of India will be issued and the same will be available only at the Panaji sales counter," he added.
