Highlighting the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment, Chicalim Parish Priest Fr Bolmax Pereira on Monday also emphasised on the importance of unity among the Goan diaspora in the UK.

He was delivering his homily during a special Mass in Konkani at the St Joseph's Roman Church in Wembley on the theme ‘Care for Creation’.

The Eucharistic celebration, which drew members of the Goan community from across the United Kingdom, focused on environmental stewardship, compassion, and community solidarity.

In his homily, Fr Pereira delivered a powerful message on the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment.

Emphasising Pope Leo's call to 'Ecological Conversion' he called the congregation to 'return to their roots'. He further reminded the congregation that creation is a gift entrusted to humanity and must be treated with reverence and responsibility.

Calling out for moral responsibility, he urged the faithful to avoid greed and to extend help to those in need, particularly in a world increasingly marked by inequality and environmental degradation.

Fr Pereira also addressed the importance of unity within the Goan diaspora, calling on members of the community to come together as one.

“We must not allow distractions or divisions to weaken our identity and purpose,” he said. “Together, we can preserve not only our cultural roots but also be a force for good in the society we live in.”

The event was made possible with the support and permission of the parish priest and the parish office of St Joseph’s Church, Wembley. Fr Pereira expressed his deep gratitude to them for their cooperation and hospitality.

The Mass was organised by Floyd Dias do Rosário in collaboration with Wembley Goans. Those who read the readings and helped in the organisation of the Mass included Rony Cardozo, Rosaria Fernandes, Meena Fernandes, Juella Camelo, Clarisa Dias and Sacramenta Fernandes.
