Her ordeal and the dreaded sounds of bullets around the campus finally came to an end when a Goan student stranded in riot-hit Manipur arrived safely in the State on Saturday evening.
Dr Suvidya Naik was welcomed by her family and they thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his timely intervention to ensure her safe departure from Manipur and her safe arrival to Goa.
Speaking to media persons at Dabolim airport, Dr Naik said she was relieved to return to Goa.
"There were riots between the Manipuri tribes. We had never encountered such a situation before and we were all scared. It was a life and death situation. That is why we wanted to get out from there as soon as possible," said Dr Naik.
"It has been four months since I was in Manipur and Iwas studying masters in Clinical Psychology. We had just finished our exams and were waiting our practical exams but I am not sure if the exams will be conducted now. The college has not intimated us and we have informed them that we are leaving from Manipur and they will let us know when to come back,” said Dr Naik.
Her father, Sunil Naik, was thankful to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who helped rescue his daughter and bring her safely to Goa.
"We are also thankful to Goa DIG Dr A Koan who was put specially on duty to escort Dr Suvidya Naik from Manipur to Goa and the CRPF team who meticulously handled the situation in Manipur and got her to the airport. We are relieved that we have got our child back in Goa. She was the only student from Goa studying in Manipur University," said Naik.
"We were sleepless and she was horrified with the sounds of bullets around the campus. I immediately contacted the CM, who assured me that he would ensure that my daughter would be brought safely back to Goa," said Naik.
