BELAGAVI
Three priests of Goan origin were among the six priests ordained in Belagavi on Monday.
Bishop of Belgaum Derek Fernandes who presided over the Eucharistic celebrations ordained Deacons Praveen John Dandvate (Tumarikoppa), Joseph Raj (Chennai), Prashant Koppal (Guttal-Haveri), Anthony D’Souza (Bhosgali-Khanapur), Thomas Fernandes (Alnavar) and Intru Pinto (Kesarolli-Haliyal) as priests at Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral at Camp-Belagavi.
Fr Thomas Fernandes will be serving in the Diocese of Karwar.
“We have differently trained priests in our diocese. It’s not a small occasion as six priests have been ordained on one day. All of them have been well trained traditionally and religiously at different seminaries. All of them would serve the people,” said Bishop Fernandes, while advising the youngsters to devote themselves at the service of the people of God.
A big congregation from the dioceses of Belgaum and Karwar comprising priests, religious, lay people and relatives of the newly ordained priests were present for the Ordination Mass and the felicitation that followed.
