UHC calls on Madgavkars to help boost dengue fight

The Margao Urban Health Centre on Monday made a fervent plea to Madgavkars to join hands with the health team to prevent dengue from spreading in the city.

On the occasion of National Dengue Day on Monday on the theme “Dengue is preventable, Let’s join hands”, the Urban health centre reminded the people that dengue can be kept at bay in the city only if the citizens joins hand with the health team drafted in the battle against the disease.

“The doctors and the health team cannot come to each and every house to check water accumulation in flower vases, utensils and water barrels. But, we can prevent dengue if the citizens join  hands with us by taking small preventable steps right inside their homes”, informed Ayush doctor Dr Swapna.

A demo house was especially erected at the entrance to the Margao Urban Health centre to educate the people how  dengue can be prevented right inside the houses.

At the function, Dr Rajesh Naik showered praised on Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Socorro Quadros, saying the doctor has taken the right initiative by stressing on the preventive side of the dengue. “Dr Quadros has been a very supportive doctor, who has managed to bring the various stake holders together on National Dengue Day. Prevention is a very important aspect of public health”, he added.

Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira assured full support of the Civic body to the Urban Health Centre in meeting the logistics. He said the MMC would  move the Director of Municipal Administration for sanction to provide 10 labourers to the Urban Health centre for dengue work.

In his address, GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins welcomed the theme on dengue, but reminded the participants that joining hands is very easy, but what is important is making it happen.

He said South Goa district, with seven talukas needed more attention from the Health department, saying that holding the National Dengue Day in Magao should hopefully turn out to be the beginning.

Director, National Health Mission Dr Ira Almeida and others, including Margao Municipal Councilors participated in the programme.
