Supreme Court lawyer, Adv Bhanu Pratap and his team on Friday said that the Constitution of India, democracy and the future of the country can be protected only if the elections are conducted via the postal ballot system.
The team also highlighted how the Electronic Voting machines can be manipulated to show the result in favour of a particular party.
At an interactive session at the historic Lohia Maidan here on Friday evening organized by citizens of Goa under the banner of Goans Against EVM, Adv Bhanu Pratap joined hands with the citizens to take a vow that the people of India will not allow the EVM system of election. Hands went up at the Lohia Maidan as the citizens resolved to demand the time tested ballot system for the ensuing Lok Sabh polls. “We have just four months left to come down on the streets to demand a change in the voting system and save the Constitution, Democracy and the future of the country”, Bhanu Pratap said.
He pointed out that the Election Commission of India has allegedly become the slaves of the ruling dispensation, compromising on the independence of the Constitutional body set up to conduct and oversee elections in the country.
Bhanu Pratap further said that the EVMs are being manufactured at the two public sector undertakings at the Electronic Corporation of India and Bharat Electronics Ltd. While alleging that a couple of directors on the BEL are BJP functionaries, Bhanu Pratap wondered how there can be secrecy and independence of the public sector undertaking. “When a couple of Directors of BEL are BJP functionaries, it becomes a BJP Electronics Ltd”, he said.
He also demanded to know why the EVMs manufactured at the ECI and BEL are not being verified and certified by any independent agency in the country. “When all products manufactured in India are subjects to checks, why the EVMs are being exempted from certification”, he added.
