Goans visiting Belagavi in their own transport are now required to be more watchful as the traffic police have now made all the important arterial roads in the city as ‘No Parking Zones’.
In an initiative to enhance smooth traffic flow in the city, the Commissioner of Police B S Lokeshkumar has issued a notification announcing a ban on 21 main city roads in the city.
According to the notification, parking has been banned for all types of vehicles. The citizens would have to end up paying a fine of Rs 2,000 for cars and LCVs, with an additional fine of Rs 1000 if the vehicle is towed away.
In case of two wheelers, the fine has been fixed at Rs 1,000 and additional Rs 650 will have to be paid as towing charges.
According to the notification, some important roads where no-parking zones have been imposed are Rani Channamma Circle to Krishnadevaraya Circle via Civil Hospital Road up to KLES Hospital, Krishnadevaraya Circle (Kolhapur Circle) to Sangolli Rayanna Circle (RTO) and further to Central Bus Terminus, the New Gandhi Nagar Circle from Ashoka Circle to Circuit House, Ramdev Hotel to Dharmanath Bhawan and from Club Road on Milan Hotel to Harsha Electronics.
Inside the city, parking has been banned from Bogarves to Chenamma Circle via College Road, Samadevi Galli, Gondhali Galli, Kirloskar Road, Ramlingkhind Galli Cross (opp Nucleus Mall) and some of the main roads in Tilakwadi area.
However, confusion has prevailed over where alternative parking arrangements have been made, given the limited parking facilities at Ramdev Galli corporation parking and at Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle (Bogarves).
