Mormugao Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar on Friday petitioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take up beautification and underground cabling along two important roads, F L Gomes road and Swatantra Path, in Vasco.
Salkar recalled that the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) had even passed a resolution on March 1 seeking beautification of these two roads and the resolution had been forwarded to the government.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Salkar said
the Swatantra Path and F L Gomes road are the lifeline of Vasco city and have
been an integral part of the city’s socio-cultural
heritage.
“These roads are being frequented by thousands of people and also witness all cultural festivals and traditional events like the annual Carnival, Shigmo and Narkasur. The beautification of these roads has been a long pending demand of Vasco and Vascokars.”
Salkar said the recent tragic incident of one tree collapsing on electricity lines and claiming the life of a scooterist had prompted civic authorities to cut down dangerous trees on the verge of collapse.
“Underground cabling is the most feasible and viable option to avoid such tragic incidents,” said Salkar.
