Following the movement of cyclone Kyarr away from Goa’s coast, the rains subsided considerably on Diwali eve, but moderate to sometimes heavy rainfall occurred at most places over Goa, the Met Department said on Saturday. The rainfall is likely to reduce even further in the coming days, the Department added.
Meanwhile, Kyarr intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Friday and lay centred at 11:30 am on Saturday about 350 km West-Southwest of Ratnagiri (Maharashtra), 410 km South-Southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 1,690 km East-Southeast of Salalah (Oman). It is very likely to move West-north westwards towards the Oman coast during the next five days. Though the maximum temperatures rose appreciably over the State, they were markedly below normal over North Goa and appreciably below normal in South Goa. There was no large change in minimum temperature. The highest maximum temperature of 30.0 °C was recorded at Mormugao, and the lowest minimum temperature of 22.4 °C was also recorded at Mormugao.
Meanwhile, over Friday-Saturday, Pernem received the maximum rainfall at 22 centimetres. Mapusa, Ela(Old Goa), Margao, Marmugao and Quepem received seven centimetres each, Sankhali 6 cms, Ponda, Panaji and Dabolim 5 cms each, Canacona 4 cms and Valopi 3 cms.
Farmers take note : Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places on October 27, and a few places on 28, 29 and 30.
Warning to fishermen: Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55 to 65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph likely to prevail over the South Maharashtra coast for the next 24 hours. Fishers are advised not to venture along and off the coast till then.
