Goans must remain alert from police impersonators: CM

MAPUSA

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday urged the citizens of the State to do proper police verification before giving rooms on rent and to remain alert from individuals who claim to be police.

Sawant also said that Goa Police has been organising various programmes at various levels and in different parts of the State to create awareness among the public in bid to reduce crimes.

“I do not understand how some people fall in the trap of unknown individuals who approach them claiming to be police. Some people even willingly give their gold chains to such cheaters. People should remain alert and always check an individual’s credentials before engaging with them,” said Sawant, who is also the Home Minister.

The CM was responding to a query from Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar during the Question Hour.

Amonkar informed that Mormugao police station was facing severe staff crunch and as a result criminal activities had shot up in the area.

He said there was only one driver at the police station and several police posts have been vacant.

He further informed that there was no lady police officer at the police station.

The CM informed that the newly appointed 135 Police Sub-Inspectors, 500 Police Constables were presently undergoing basic training course at New Delhi and 471 Police Constables were undergoing basic training course at police training school, Valpoi.

“On completion of the basic training course, sufficient staff will be posted at all police stations including the Mormugao Police Station. We will sanction 13 staff immediately. A lady police constable will also be sanctioned,” he said.
