Dip by 2-3 degrees likely from Sun
PANAJI
Goa and Goans have come under a spell of sweltering heat as the chilly winter mornings are quickly dissolving into hot mid-mornings, afternoons and evenings.
On Thursday, a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees centigrade was recorded in Panaji, the second highest the mercury rose to in the last decade. The temperature of 38.7 degrees centigrade recorded on March 6, 2013 was the highest.
Earlier this week on Monday, the mercury rose to 37.9 degrees centigrade, recording the highest 'maximum temperature' of the day, in the whole country.
Monday's 37.9 degrees centigrade was also Goa's hottest February day in several decades. Also it was only Mumbai which came anywhere close to Goa's maximum temperature on that day, recording 37.3 degrees centigrade. All other cities and towns in India were much cooler.
Over the last 50-odd years, there have been just 14 days when the mercury in thermometers climbed above the 38 degrees mark in Goa, and the highest ever temperature was recorded at Panaji on April 7, 1989.
The good news however is that weathermen have predicted a dip in temperature by 2-3 degrees from Sunday onwards for at least three days.
