The civil supplies department has suspended the ration cards of 15,707 families in Bardez taluka, after these families had not taken their quota from the fair price shops.
There are around 50,000 ration card holders in the taluka.
The State government had decided to suspend the ration cards of those consumers if they did not pick up their monthly quota from their fair price shops and accordingly, the civil supplies department has begun the process of suspending these ration cards.
When these ration cards are suspended, the ration card does not get registered on the fair price shops. If this suspension order has to be withdrawn later, the ration card holder needs to submit an application specifying the reason for not lifting their quota.
The Aadhaar cards of the family members have to be presented along with the application. The suspension order is then withdrawn by the department after 45 days.
When contacted, Mapusa Civil Supplies inspector Bhanu Goltekar said there are around 50,000 ration card beneficiaries and of these, 15,707 ration card holders had not lifted their quota, so their cards have been suspended.
“If these ration card holders wish to reactivate their cards, they will have to write down the reason for not taking their monthly quota in a self-declared application. To avoid this action, all beneficiaries should avail the benefit of the monthly ration quota,” said Goltekar.
