The sleepy village of Divar came alive as Malar celebrated its 50th edition of the traditional flag festival ‘Bonderam', on Saturday. Organised by the Sao Mathias Sports Club, the festival showcased the traditions of Goa in the form of floats, while the girls and boys danced to the beats of the Konkani music, as hundreds of Divadkars and people from different parts of Goa lined up along the route to witness the annual event.
Earlier, the festival was flagged off with the flag bearers participating in the flag march accompanied by a lively brass band. However, all eyes were on the float parade and the crowd was not disappointed as the four floats enthralled the audience.
The Church Ward presented the first float entitled ‘Kumbharacho vavr amchi girestkai' and it focused on the dying art of preparing various items out of clay.
Next to follow was a float reminiscing the Konkani stage artistes of yesteryears and the various golden songs of the years gone by. The ward of Goddar then presented ‘Goddachi svadik sanna' highlighting the uses of coconut in the preparation of various recipes of Goa. TGN
