He was speaking during the inauguration of the work of a new sewerage pipeline at Gulmohar area in Dabolim in the presence of Chicalim Sarpanch Seby Pereira, Dy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, Bogmalo panchas, AE of Sewerage Department Nolasco Pereira and others.
"My message to Goa as panchayat minister is ‘clean and green Goa' and activating Swachh Bharat Abhiyan," he said and stressed on the need to build community toilets and individual toilets to prevent open defecation.
Godinho said when he was MLA of undivided Cortalim constituency, two schemes were sanctioned by the Centre for sewerage. As Cortalim MLA, he had conducted a survey for sewerage connection and the entire area of Cortalim and Dabolim except Vaddem and New Vaddem was covered in the scheme.
"The Centre has now cleared the funds of a central proposal of Rs 267 crore that covers the sewerage of all areas of Cortalim and Dabolim except Vaddem and New Vaddem. Soon, entire Dabolim Constituency will have sewerage connections."
Then later as Dabolim MLA, he conducted another survey to cover all the areas of Dabolim and another Rs 150 crore has been sanctioned. "However, the project awaits clearance," he said, adding that the present project of laying a new sewerage pipeline at Gulmohar area was costing Rs 70 lakh and it was a long pending demand of the residents as septic tanks were overflowing and there was no provision for additional tanks.
"The contractor has assured to complete the works within 3 months," he added.
"The government has taken a decision to have sewerage system across the State. Within 2 years, the entire Dabolim constituency will be covered in this system. I will take up development and get infrastructure at a fast pace to ensure healthy living and improve quality of life of the citizens of my constituency," he assured.
