Godinho wants Panchayat Ghars to be solar-powered

VASCO

Advising people and institutions to move towards solar energy amid a hike in power tariff, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday said he would want every Panchayat Ghar in the State to be solar-powered so that villagers could see the benefits of solar power.

Godinho was speaking to reporters at a function to offer a cheque to the temple committee of Shree Rashtroli Santoshi Mata Temple at New Vaddem for installing a solar-powered generation system in the presence of Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, Municipal Councillors Vinod Kinlekar, Leo Rodrigues and others.

"Solar power is a one-time investment and the bills will go down by one-tenth and the excess power generated will go back to the grid. This is an environment-friendly alternative and people must promote the use of solar power.

Godinho said he would also request all panchayats to go in for solar power at their Panchayat Ghars.

"I will recommend to every panchayat in Goa to do a one-time investment and go in for solar power so that villagers can see the benefits of solar power and more houses can take advantage of the solar power,” said Godinho.

“Not only houses but huge establishments can be powered by solar energy and there is also a 50 per cent subsidy which will be reimbursed once solar panels are installed," said Godinho.

Godinho said the Santoshi Mata temple wanted a solar system for a long time because of huge electricity bills.
