SANGUEM
The Judicial Magistrate First Class at Sanguem convicted one Sadanand Gaonkar (40) of Joida-Karnataka under Section 279 for rash and negligent driving and under Section 304A of IPC for causing the death of an occupant in the vehicle.
The accident occurred at Mollem Junction on January 8, 2016, as the accused, Sadanand Gaonkar, rammed his car into the rear of a KTC Bus which was about to leave the Mollem Junction after dropping off passengers.
With the impact of the incident, Gaonkar was injured while another occupant Uday Gaude Anmod-Karnataka was declared dead on arrival at the PHC in Pilliem-Darbandora.
ASI Parshuram Patil attached to Collem Police Station filed a charge sheet against Sadanand Gaonkar under Section 279 and 304 A IPC at JMFC Sanguem.
The prosecution led by APP Sanford Fernandes examined seven witnesses, including the Investigating Officer Parshuram Patil.
The JMFC after going through the material on record and the evidence placed by the Prosecution held the accused Sadanand Gaonkar guilty of offences and convicted the accused under Sections 279 and 304 A of IPC.
The JMFC directed the accused to pay a fine of Rs 1000 for the offence under Section 279 and Rs 15,000 under Section 304A within a period of 60 days or in default, to undergo jail for three months.
