the goan I network rMARGAO r rThe NGO has also decided to take up the issue of the ill-equipped Canacona Community health centre, warning the government that citizens of the town may be forced to launch an andolan in support of the demand for equipment at the community health centre. rSandesh Talekar said the activities of Goemkar were all along confined to Canacona taluka, with the NGO taking up issues of solid waste management and the more recent case of development on the slopes at Khola village. r“We have now decided to take up issues across the state, mostly related to the environment,” Sandesh said. rGoemkar president, Jack Fernandes pointed out that citizens from across the state can contact the NGO on 9881282445 and 9011000267 if they have any environment related grievances. Sandesh pointed out that the NGO will soon call on the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane with a written plea to the government to put the Canacona community medical centre in order. “The medical centre is in need of both doctors and other infrastructure. Patients are being routinely shifted to Margao for want of basic amenities at the Canacona centre,” informed NGO secretary Vikas Bhagat.
Goemkar to spread its ‘green’ wings
Canacona-based NGO Goemkar, which had taken up the issue of waste management in the state’s southernmost town, has decided to expand its operations across the state.
