PANAJI:A Goan family reportedly hailing from South Goa was in for a rude shock on Sunday when they proceeded to Miramar beach for a bath but came back to find their car broken into and gold ornaments stolen. The family came to Miramar beach around 2 pm. They decided to leave all their gold ornaments in the car, locked it and proceeded to have a dip in the waters, as all Goan families are known to do in the summer. In the approximately two hours between 3 pm and 5 pm that they spent on the beach, unknown persons broke the car window and stole the gold ornaments which were reportedly kept on one of the car seats. The car-break was apparently a professional job as glass-cutting tools seem to have been used.An eye-witnesses account said the car was parked in a crowded patch of the road opposite the Goa Science Centre.Less than 200 meters away, around 5 to 10 police personnel were checking each and every vehicle parked in the area around the beautified Miramar circle.Interestingly, no police case was booked although the discovery of the theft led to much commotion in the area. The family, according to police sources, preferred not to file any complaint or register an FIR.
