Customs sleuths at Dabolim Airport seized gold worth Rs 33 lakh from a passenger who had arrived from Dubai by an Indigo flight 6E-8445 in the wee hours of Saturday.

Alert customs officers, headed by Assistant Commissioner of Customs Juliet Fernandes, found the passenger in a suspicious manner and intercepted him. They found 610 grams in liquid gold and two gold chains, all valued at Rs 33,06,097.

Joint Commissioner of Customs Mahabir Singh Meena said the passenger had hidden the gold chains and pouch of gold in liquid form in his undergarments.

Commissioner of Customs Mihir Ranjan informed that since April 2020, the Air Customs of Goa Commissionerate has seized 3,336 gms of gold worth Rs 1.44 crore at Dabolim International Airport.
