VASCO
A Vasco-based doctor was in the right place and at the right time when he saved the life of a snake which was injured and would have been killed by a group of people at Baina-Vasco on Monday.
Not only did Dr Gautam Dubhashi rescue the snake from the clutches of the people trying to kill it, he took the snake to a hospital, offered first aid and later handed it over to the forest department.
According to reports, a large snake, which seen roaming near the wall clock tower at Baina, was trapped by some person.
The snake was then tied to a pillar with a wire around its neck and people began to hit it with sticks, sources told The Goan.
Dr Dubhashi of Vishwa Sanjivani Health Centre was passing by at the time, when he stopped on seeing a large crowd and assumed that a road mishap had taken place.
Shocked at the cruelty towards the snake, he immediately stopped the people and put the snake in a bag. He took it in his car to his hospital and also informed the forest department.
Nurses and staff were surprised to see Dr Dubhashi bring the injured snake to the hospital. The reptile was given first aid to ensure it survived before handing it over to the forest
department.
When contacted, Dr Dubhashi said he was
very hurt with the cruelly of the crowd and decided to save the snake.
“We are doctors and are supposed to save lives, but our service is not only restricted to human life. Animals also have a life and suffer pain. We as humans and doctors can do our bit for them in times of emergency,” said Dr Dubhashi.
“It was shocking that the snake’s neck was tied with a wire. Every time, the snake contracted after a hit, the loop tightened causing it to choke. I immediately alerted the forest department, but I feared the snake would die and so I offered it primary first aid and did whatever I could do to save its life,” said Dr Dubhashi.
