Gautam Kamat Bambolkar a Goan from Bandora-Ponda who currently works for Google as an Interaction Designer in New York, has won the prestigious ‘Architecture MasterPrize for Interior Architecture Photography 2021’ at Los Angeles, California.
Gautam’s photo series 'Man-Made Caves' and single photo 'Reimagined Vessel' were recently declared 'best of best' and won the prestigious award in the 'Public Interior' category.
The winning photos were shot in New York City. The 'Man-Made Caves' was shot in the interiors of a train station while 'Reimagined Vessel' was at a building in Hudson Yards.
Speaking to The Goan, Gautam, who currently is in the US, said, “I am thrilled to receive this award. I love doing architecture photography and getting recognition at the world level feels amazing”.
This year, entries came in from 65 countries and the winners with the highest scores received the 'Best of Best' title.
The Architecture Photography MasterPrize is a global award that recognizes design excellence. Submissions come in from all around the world.
“Though Architecture MasterPrize is in the 6th year, it is this year that they have introduced the Architecture Photography MasterPrize (APMP), an award that recognizes outstanding architectural photography of the built environment,” he said.
Son of noted theatre artist Gurudas Kamat Bambolkar, Gautam’s photos have won Gold each at Paris (Paris Photo Prize) and Moscow (The Moscow International Photo Awards) and Silver at Tokyo (The Tokyo International Photo Awards).
“My photos have been featured in National Geographic's YourShot as well,” says a proud Gautam.
It was in 2017 that the government of Goa passed a congratulatory motion to honour Gautam’s achievements in photography.
A multifaceted personality, Gautam is an alumnus of Goa College of Art and loves to write too. He has written and directed a couple of one-act plays when he was working in Pune. His work has won numerous awards in Pune's theatre festivals too.
