Residents of Gorvotti-Nuvem on Tuesday called on South Goa district Collector, Asvin Chandru and Additional Collector, Srinet Kothawale to find out the status of their petition to shift the mobile tower installed on the NH66 since there’s a delay in the issuance of an order on the matter.
Both the district Collector and the Additional Collector gave a patient hearing to the residents, saying they will not act in haste, but will take a decision after taking into account all aspects of the issue.
The Collector told the people that the district Collectorate is not the licensing issuing authority and does not decide on the land for the installation of the tower. Moreover, the residents were told that the tower company has obtained the legal permissions and the NOC from the National Highways vis-Ã -vis the tower.
Saying they will take the decision after careful examination of the issue, both the district Collector and the Additional Collector said the authority will take a call considering the report submitted by the Traffic department on the location of the tower right in the middle of the Nuvem bypass on the NH66.
The villagers, on the other hand, suggested that the company can shift the tower on the Nuvem-Arlem bypass where there is no habitation. They have further suggested to the Collector that the company can shift the tower on the nearby hillock where companies have set up towers.
After coming out of the meeting, villager Everson Valles told the media that the Nuvem villagers had discussions with the district Collector Asvin Chandru, and Additional Collector, Srinet Kothawale on the tower controversy. “It appears the tower company is adamant on the issue. They are going against the sentiments of the people of Gorvotti,” Everson said, adding that the people would also see how the company will execute work on the tower in the future.
