As parents from his Nuvem constituency called on him before handing over a memorandum early Monday morning demanding passage of the MoI Bill in the current session and scrapping of the advisory committee, Mickky reminded the parents that he had already raised his voice supporting them.
Parents later told the media their only demand is they should be given the right to decide on the medium of instruction for their children. “No one should force a language on any one. Let the parents decide whether they want the children to study in English, Konkani or some other language. Under the Right to Education, the children should get free education,” asserted Eusebio Rebello.
While demanding to know why parents should pay fees to teach their students in schools, Eusebio said that they have told Mickky to raise his voice in the assembly in support of their demands.
The parents contended in spite of fighting fighting for so long, nothing has happened till date though the government had brought the Bill in the assembly in 2014. “This advisory committee has been constituted to fool the people. We don’t want this committee. The BBSM is a divisive force, but people from all communities have come under one banner knowing its ploy well,” the parents asserted.
