Government has big plans to revamp Pernem s shores

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday stated that the State government will allocate funds under the central Swadesh Darshan Scheme for the Integrated Coastal Circuit Development of Pernem.

 Parsekar was speaking at the laying the foundation stone for the beautification work of the Morjai Devi temple at Morjim on Thursday. The Morjai temple will be renovated by the tourism department at a cost of Rs 2.73 crore. “The Government has plans to take up various developmental works to improve infrastructure to boost tourism and also to create new touristic locations in the State under the Integrated Coastal Circuit Development in Pernem taluka through Tourism Department,” Parsekar said. “The government has also proposed to take up other developmental projects, which includes parking facilities at Ashwem beach, development of Morjim Khind, improvement of road connectivity from the Siolim bridge to Chopdem junction, construction of footpath and illumination from Harmal Tito in Harmal village to Bhumika Middle School at Palye, development of the Bhagvati temple at Mandrem and the construction of a footbridge, improvement of parking facility and a garden at Junaswada-Mandrem,” said the chief minister, who represents Mandrem constituency. The chief minister informed that the beautification work at the Morjai temple is expected to be completed in eight months. Among those present at the function included Morjai Temple committee president Gopal Shetgoankar, Mandrem BJP President Ramesh Shetgoankar, Laxman Shetgoankar, Kalu Ganesh Shetgoankar, Ganesh Shetgoankar, Prakash Shetgonkar, Adv. Arjun Shetgoankar, former sarpanch Ratnakar Shetgoankar, panch Hari Palyekar and Laxman Parab.
